Reporting Skills to CEDAW: the latest training course offered by the Arab Women Organization

 AWO held a training course entitled "Reporting Skills to the Committee of convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW)" on 17 and 18 May 2019 in Hurghada, Egypt. The session was inaugurated with a speech by Dr. Fadia Kiwan, Director General of AWO. The sessions dealt with the training of participants in the preparation of the national reports submitted to the CEDAW Committee.

The first day sessions dealt with the objectives and expected outcomes of the training course, provided an overview of the international human rights framework and the presentation of international treaties, as well as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). In addition to reporting methodologies and sustainable development objectives were also presented.

The topics of the course on the second day dealt with coordination among the concerned national units and its importance, the role of national human rights institutions and consultations with non-governmental organization. It also included the distribution of participants to working groups to implement a virtual work on reporting to the CEDAW Committee.

The course concluded with comprehensive reviews and summaries of the issues and discussions, then cerificates were presented to the participants.

Twenty-five trainees from the Representatives of the Member States of the AWO and Arab non-governmental organizations participated in the training course; the training work was carried out by the two experts on the CEDAW Committee: Ms. Nahla Haider and Ambassador Naela Gabr.
