The General Director of the Arab Women Organization addresses the International Committee of the Red Cross
10/17/2023
Cairo, October 17, 2023
Attention of the International Committee of the Red Cross
Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of ICRC
Dear Madam
I am addressing you on behalf of the Arab Women Organization to ask the ICRC to act rapidly for a cease fire in the District of Gaza, and for a humanitarian couloir facilitating the access of emergency relief to the civilians in Gaza, a huge number of them being victims of a non-stop blind shelling of the district since more than 10 days.
We deeply believe that only negotiations can lead to a sustainable settlement between Israel and the Palestinians and that repression, humiliation and exclusion can only increase anger and produce hate.
An initiative of the ICRC is highly requested today on the highest international level to help stopping this blind retaliation taking civilians, and women and children in particular, as main targets of fire. The ICRC should not allow the policy of inciting civilians to quit their land but should act to alleviate their suffer and urge the international community to adopt a serious process of negotiations as a path to reach a sustainable peace ending a conflict of more than 75 years between Israel and the Palestinians.
Fadia Kiwan
Director General
Arab Women Organization
